Start submissionAuthor Guidelines
Last updated 20.03.2025
Our Editorial Office highly appreciates your work and your time, so prior to submitting your article, please consult our Publishing Ethics Guidelines and check that your manuscript meets the basic requirements for scientific publications.
By submitting the article, authors accept the below-listed requirements developed according to the recommendations of the Higher Attestation Commission of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE), the Enhancing the Quality and Transparency of Health Research (EQUATOR) Network, and the Association of Science Editors and Publishers (ASEP).
- Accompanying Documents
Documents accompanying the manuscript include:
- A license agreement to transfer non-exclusive rights to the article published in the City Healthcare journal, signed by all authors stated in the manuscript.
- A copy of the Ethical Committee Approval Certificate for research (if applicable).
- Submission request to the City Healthcare Journal
Submitted materials are not reviewed without the above-listed documents.
- Authorship
Article authors are persons who have made substantial contributions to manuscript preparation and its final approval for publication and are responsible for the integrity of all manuscript parts. Authors should specify how and at what stage each author of the article contributed to manuscript preparation (in Russian and English): conception and design of the study; collection and processing of materials; statistical processing of data; manuscript writing; manuscript editing; approval of a final version of manuscript; and responsibility for the integrity of all manuscript parts. All authors should add links to their profiles at https://orcid.org.
The number of authors should be reasonable: without limitations in original research publications, not more than 4 authors in reviews.
You should complete your profile with information in English. Please visit the website of the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (https://icmje.org/) to learn more about authorship.
- Conflict of interest
All authors are requested to disclose any actual or potential conflict of interest. Any situation that can affect the author of the manuscript and lead to concealment and distortion of data, or change their interpretation can be considered a conflict of interest. Conflict of interest for one or more authors is not a reason for refusing to publish an article. If the editors find out the authors concealed actual or potential conflict of interest, it may serve as the ground for refusal to review and publish the manuscript.
Information on conflict of interest should be specified in Russian and English. If there is no conflict of interest, please indicate: the authors declare no conflict of interest.
For more information on conflict of interest, see the website of Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) at https://publicationethics.org/.
- Financial support
Authors are requested to identify who provided financial support for the conduct of the research and/or the preparation of the article. Information on financial support should be specified in English. If the article had no funding sources, please indicate: The author(s) received no financial support for the research.
- Plagiarism and secondary publishing
Improper and unethical citation and presenting research results that do not belong to the authors of the submitted manuscript are inadmissible. If the publications of other authors are mentioned in the article, their primary sources are cited in the References section. The parts of already published articles are cited in quotes with an indication of the primary source. The article will be retracted from publication if plagiarism is revealed after publication.
The Editorial Office checks the received manuscripts for plagiarism using licensed software Antiplagiat (https://www.antiplagiat.ru). Manuscripts are allowed for publication if text similarity with other articles doesn’t exceed 20%.
Submission to the Editorial Office of previously published (in whole or in part) articles and articles already considered for publication in another journal is not allowed.
- Article Retraction
The retraction of an already published article is a measure of last resort and is applied in the event of disclosure of facts that were not known during the review:
- detection of violations of the law and defamation
- detection of false or inaccurate data, especially the one that may pose a health risk
- the amount of borrowings is more than 20%.
- Copyright
Authors who publish their manuscripts in the City Healthcare journal agree to the following conditions:
- Authors retain the copyright on their articles and grant the journal the right of first publication of their works under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution License, which allows to distribute the article while referring to the article’s authors and the publication in the City Healthcare
- Authors retain the right to conclude other contract agreements covering the non-exclusive distribution of published article (e.g., distribution at the repository of a higher education institution) while referring to the original publication in the City Healthcare
- Editing
The Editorial Office reserves the right to edit and shorten received manuscripts, and change the design of graphics, figures, and tables according to the journal design while not changing the sense of information presented.
- Manuscript Submission
Manuscripts and accompanying documents are submitted through the online form Start Submission at the City Healthcare website (https://www.city-healthcare.com). The file with article text should be presented in the format of Microsoft Word, i.e., with .doc, .docx, or .rtf extension. Accompanying documents with wet signatures are submitted in the form of a PDF scan.
- Requirements for Submitted Manuscripts
10.1 Manuscript Length
Manuscripts should not exceed 18 pages, which includes figures, tables, the abstract, and references. If the author believe that their article merits a longer length, the Editorial Board will evaluate the submission for publication, taking into consideration the recommendations of reviewers.
10.2 Language of Manuscripts
Submissions for the City Healthcare journal can be made in either Russian or English. Manuscripts in Russian should include metadata translated into English: article title, authors’ full names, affiliations, postal addresses of affiliated organizations, abstract, keywords, references, article info, and information about authors.
Manuscripts from international authors in English are published at the discretion of the Editorial Board without requiring translation into Russian, except for the metadata, or with partial translation into Russian (title, and captions for figures and tables).
10.3 Article should be formatted in 12-point (or 14-point) Times New Roman font with 1.5 line spacing, 2 cm margins, and justified alignment. Automatic hyphenation is prohibited. This file should include the first author's last name in its title. Any figures and scanned documents should be submitted in separate files.
10.4 Table Format
Tables should be sequentially numbered and have titles in Russian and English. Each table should have clearly defined columns, and the data provided should correlate with the figures mentioned in the article without repeating the text. It is obligatory to refer to tables in the main text.
It is not allowed to abbreviate words in tables. Tables should be integrated in the main text rather than presented on separate pages. A decimal point is used to separate fractional part of numbers in tables. Formulae and equations must be in an editable format, not included as images. Values should be written in italic.
10.5 Figures and Illustrations
Figures, such as graphs, diagrams, and schemes, should be contrast, clear, and of high-quality. Authors should not submit figures with low resolution, files altered for screen display, and 3D images.
It is strictly prohibited to use already published figures.
- Text Structure
*Title page
The article starts with metadata presented first in Russian, then in English in the following order:
- Article Title.
- Authors' Names: This includes the last names and initials of authors. If the article has several authors, superscript numbers are inserted next to all author names and affiliated organizations. If authors work in one organization, it is listed once. For authors with multiple affiliations, each institution is indicated with a different superscript number.
- Affiliations: The names of the organizations the authors are associated with should include the organization’s status, their affiliations, and the complete postal address, which must include the postal code, city, and country.
- Abstract: A summary of up to 250 words that includes introduction, aim, materials and methods, and results.
- Keywords should be separated by semicolons, and there should be no period at the end.
Information for citation.
*Abstract
The article abstract is a main source of information in international databases and information systems that index the journal. Abstract should avoid general terms and include only key facts relevant to the study. For original research, the abstracts should be structured as the article: introduction/background, aim and objectives, materials and methods, results, discussion, limitations, and conclusions. If the subject or topic of the study is not clear from the title, it should be explicitly stated in the abstract. The abstract should not exceed 250 words. Following the abstract, include up to 10 keywords or phrases describing the main topic of article and facilitating the categorization of article in search engines.
Abstract and keywords should be provided in Russian and English. Keywords in English should be taken from a thesaurus, e.g. Medline, MeSH, or EMtree. It is recommended to transliterate the last names of authors in English as in their previous publications or using the system of Board of Geographic Names or the website https://translit.ru/. The names of organizations in English should be taken from official documents.
*Original Research Structure
The structure of original research should follow the IMRAD format (Introduction, Methods, Results And Discussion). Original research is to be organized in the following order: abstract and keywords in English, abstract and keywords in Russian, introduction, materials and methods, results, discussion, conclusion, references, article information (conflict of interest, financial support, and author contributions), information about authors (their academic degree, job position, and place of work), and contact details of the corresponding author (full name and email).
The Introduction section should contain a brief overview of the relevant data, a critical assessment of the literature relevant to the problem under consideration, and a rationale for the novelty and significance of the study; clearly formulated goals and objectives should be set for further research. All keywords of the article should be reflected in the introduction. Authors should avoid an in-depth analysis and a long historical background.
The Materials and Methods section should contain patient inclusion and exclusion criteria, a detailed description of study methods, and a brief description of study protocol (Standard Operating Protocol, SOP). It is recommended to use the Consolidated Standards of Reporting Trials, or CONSORT (https://www.consort-spirit.org/). Previously published methods should be cited, with only relevant changes described.
When presenting the results of scientific research, modern statistical methods for data analysis should be described. The statistical analysis should include a sample size estimation based on statistical power, a Kolmogorov-Smirnov or Shapiro-Wilk test for normality, a detailed presentation of models of logistic or linear regression analysis (determinants and covariates), a statistical software package, and its version.
Results and discussion should not be combined into a single section. The results should be clear and concise. Data are presented in absolute numbers and percentages; a 95% confidence interval (95 CI%) and a p-value are indicated.
The Discussion should offer a convincing explanation of the results and highlight their significance. If applicable, the results from computational studies should be compared with data from previously published experimental works. Any limitations of the study should be mentioned in the Discussion section. These are clear limitations in applying chosen methods of study and characteristics of the study object, which provide unambiguous context for the study and limits for the chosen subject of the experiment. Ethical and sociocultural implications are also important orientations and limitations of research.
*Review Structure
Review articles should be submitted as literature reviews, and authors should clearly indicate this in the title. It is recommended to structure reviews according to international standards and guidelines for systematic literature search. The abstract of literature review should cover used methods of literature search in databases: Scopus, Web of Science, MedLine, The Cochrane Library, EMBASE, Global Health, CyberLeninka, Russian Science Citation Index (RSCI), etc. Keywords should include a word “review”. For detailed information on review writing, please consult the PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses) reporting guidelines at the website https://www.prisma-statement.org/.
*Standards for Terminology
Authors should use evidence-based terms and definitions in articles.
Medicines should be listed by the international non-proprietary name (INN); if applicable, a few commercial names registered in Russia can be included after the INN, as per the Russian State Register of Medicines, accessible via the “Klifar-Gosreyestr” information system. Microorganisms are named according to international nomenclature codes, e.g., the International Code of Nomenclature of Prokaryotes (https://doi.org/10.1099/ijsem.0.005585). The dosages of medicines and units of measurement should be presented in the International System of Units. A decimal point is used to separate the fractional part of numbers.
Authors may include a glossary of terms they believe might be challenging for readers to understand. It is allowed to use common abbreviations, terms, and units of measurement, such as DNA, as well as abbreviations of word combinations frequently used in the text. Abbreviations should be spelled out upon their first use. It is prohibited to abbreviate general words even if they are frequently used.
The full names of authors mentioned in the text should correspond to those in the References.
*References
References Structure
The journal uses the Vancouver citation style. References are numbered sequentially in order of appearance in the text, rather than being listed alphabetically by author. In-text citations are to be enclosed in square brackets, e.g., [1]. If the source is cited again, the same number is used. If two sources are referred to at once, both numbers of sources should be included in brackets separated by a comma, e.g., [1, 2]. For more than two consecutive sources, list the first and last numbers with a dash, e.g., [1–3]. Each reference must start on a new line in the References section.
References should adhere to international citation standards. If authors cite translated sources in text, they should refer to original sources in the References. It is recommended to use open-access services of transliteration, e.g., https://translit.ru/. In the context of various rules of transliteration, the spelling of Russian names should be verified at the website https://elibrary.ru. It is recommended to cite scientific materials published within the last five to seven years; however, sources up to ten years old may be cited if providing exceptional insight.
Before submitting, authors should verify that all in-text citations are listed in References and vice versa. References should be verifiable.
The maximum number of references allowed is 30 for original research articles, 60 for reviews, and 15 for research briefs, with a minimum of 10 references required.
Authors of cited sources should be listed in References in the same order as in the original source. If there are more than six authors, list the first six followed by "et al."
It is not allowed to shorten article titles and Russian journal titles. The titles of articles in English should be verified according to the MedLine database. If the journal isn’t indexed in MedLine, its full title should be provided.
If a cited work has a Digital Object Identifier (DOI), it should be indicated at the end of the bibliographic reference. For verifying DOIs, please refer to https://search.crossref.org/.
References should be supplied in Russian and English versions. The full names of authors and the titles of Russian sources are transliterated. The titles of Russian articles, monographs, collected papers, and conferences are translated, and the imprint of cited material presented in numeric format is followed by the notation (In Russian). Titles should be italicized. The References in English can be created using open-access transliteration services like https://translit.ru/ or Google Translate. Manual transliteration is not advisable to avoid errors.
When referencing, authors should take into consideration that:
- Scientific publications and sources to be cited are:
- scientific articles published in journals
- books and monographs
- theses and conference materials
- guidelines and recommendations published in journals
All these sources are to be included in the References. Self-citation is allowed, but no more than 3 citations.
- The sources to be presented in footnotes, not in the References, are:
- official documents, orders, federal laws, WHO guidelines, etc.
- patents and other registered works
- dissertations and their abstracts
- guidelines of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation and the Moscow Healthcare Department published on the official websites
- links to official websites.
Authors take responsibility for accuracy of data presented in the References.
- Information for the Russian Science Citation Index (RSCI)
After the References section, additional data about authors, needed for processing in the Russian Science Citation Index system, are included in Russian and English:
- Author contributions
- Conflict of interest
- Financial support
- Information about all authors: full name, academic degree, academic rank, job position, name of place of work, email, ORCID, SPIN-code (if applicable)
- Corresponding author.
- Appeal claim
Authors have the right to appeal if they don’t agree with the decision of the Editorial Board to approve or reject publication of the article.
- To learn more about ethical aspects of scientific publishing, please see the Uniform Requirements for Manuscripts Submitted to Biomedical Journals developed by the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICME) at the website https://www.icmje.org/.
15. The City Healthcare Journal has a manuscript rejection rate of 20%.
